Is your life today what you pictured a year ago? Let’s be honest. If you’re anything like me, last year’s you was brimming with optimism. You were writing goals in a brand-new planner, color-coded and stickered with reckless abandon. You imagined a life where you’d wake up before dawn to meditate, sip a perfectly frothy latte in chic loungewear, and transform into a version of yourself who answers emails with lightning speed.
Cut to today:
- My alarm goes off, and I snooze it like I’m defusing a bomb.
- The frothy latte? It’s still frothy—because I reheated it twice after I forgot it existed.
- My chic loungewear? Let’s just call it ‘seasoned’ (pilled leggings and a sweatshirt that says, “I Need More Lattes”).
What about that book you swore you’d write? Wait—I did write a book. Take that, self-doubt! Published on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Apple Books and just about every corner of the internet where words live. That’s right—last year’s dream became a reality, and I’ll shamelessly pat myself on the back for it.
But for the rest of those plans?
- The dream trip to Italy? I carb-loaded on boxed pasta while watching Under the Tuscan Sun.
- The six-pack abs? Well, I’ve definitely got a six-pack… of Red Bull in the fridge.
Sure, life might not have gone according to plan, but look at what you did accomplish!
- You figured out how to mute yourself on Zoom (a 21st-century life skill).
- You learned that no amount of mascara can fix a midnight existential crisis.
- And somewhere along the way, you survived—whether it was with humor, caffeine, or a new appreciation for elastic waistbands.
So here’s to another year of dreams, slight chaos, and realistic expectations. Maybe this year I’ll write another book, become a calm, cool, composed goddess, or just upgrade my sweatshirt. Either way, I’m proud of me. And if I can do it, so can you.
Your turn—what did you picture your life would look like? And how’s it really going? Let’s share, laugh, and sip lattes together.
