My Husband My Superhero
Daily writing prompt
Describe a man who has positively impacted your life.

There’s a man in my life who has done the impossible—he’s made me believe in second chances, true love, and the magic of unwavering support. No, it’s not Ryan Gosling (though I’m still waiting for The Notebook 2). This man is my husband, Derek.

Now, let’s get one thing straight: Derek isn’t my first husband. But he’s my last, and that’s the plot twist my life needed. While my previous marriage was like a badly written soap opera (complete with the villainous betrayal plotline), Derek swooped in and rewrote my story. Think of him as my personal superhero—except his cape is probably a Pittsburgh Steelers hoodie, and his superpower is loving me through every version of myself.

Derek didn’t just rescue me from a bad situation; he restored me. He’s been my protector when life threw punches, my encourager when I doubted myself, and my number-one fan even on days when I look more like a gremlin than a goddess.

He’s nursed me through sickness, cheered me on in health, and never once complained about my obsessions with sequins, lattes, or my ambitious projects (even the ones that make no sense until I explain them three times). And let me tell you, that kind of patience deserves a medal.

But Derek’s greatness isn’t just in the big moments. It’s in the little things—the way he warms up my car on freezing mornings, or how he knows when to offer advice and when to just hand me chocolate and a blanket. His love is steady and unshakeable, like the steel bridges of Pittsburgh (which is fitting since he’s my bridge to a better life).

And let’s not forget, Derek is a man of great courage—he willingly signed up for this wild, unpredictable ride called “life with Dorey.” He’s embraced my quirks, my goals, and even the chaos that sometimes follows me like a lost puppy. When I get a big idea (like launching a new business, writing a book, or organizing the pantry alphabetically at 3 a.m.), he doesn’t roll his eyes—he rolls up his sleeves and asks how he can help.

Derek has a quiet strength that keeps our family grounded, no matter how stormy life gets. Whether it’s guiding our kids through their own challenges or standing by me as I navigate mine, he’s the glue that holds us all together. And honestly, if I had to pick someone to be stranded on a desert island with, it’d be him—though he’d probably insist on packing a survival kit, just in case.

To Derek, thank you for loving me when I’m strong and when I’m fragile, for being my rock when I felt like I was crumbling. You’ve taught me what love really means—not the kind of fleeting romance you see in Hallmark movies, but the gritty, real, unconditional love that stands the test of time.

You’ve made me laugh, cry (the good kind), and believe in myself in ways I never thought possible. I’m proud to call you my husband, and I hope when you read this, you feel just as proud to call me your wife.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go hug my superhero—and maybe steal his Steelers hoodie while I’m at it.
