Young Girl Reading a Book Peacefully Symbolizing Self reflection and Building a Life Based on Personal Values

🖤 You know that moment—you do something, then think:

“Why did I even do that?”

It’s like your autopilot took the wheel and forgot who you are. One minute you’re fine, the next you’re spiraling over a choice that doesn’t feel aligned with you. Not your truth. Not your heart. Definitely not your values.

And before you beat yourself up (again), let’s get real:
We’re living in a time where noise is constant and influence is everywhere.

In a world of algorithmic approval and viral validation, it’s incredibly easy to lose sight of why you’re doing what you’re doing.

But here’s the good news:
There’s a way back to your own voice—and it starts with your values.

✨ Step 1: Make a List of Your Values

You can’t live a values-based life if you don’t know what your values are.

Grab a pen (yes, an actual pen) and list what matters most to you—honestly and without judgment. Independence? Compassion? Loyalty? Creativity? What’s non-negotiable for you?

🖋 Bonus tip:
Handwriting activates deeper parts of the brain. When you write your values, you’re telling your mind: “This is sacred. This is who I am.”

🧠 Step 2: Define What Those Values Actually Mean

Let’s be real—“friendship” means something different to everyone.

Webster might say:

Friendship: The state of being friends.

But you might say:

Friendship means unconditional loyalty. It means showing up even when it’s inconvenient and caring even when it’s not returned. Friendship is love in action.

Whatever the value, give it your definition. Make it resonate. Make it yours.

🛡️Step 3: Build a Life That Reflects Those Values

Now that you’ve named and defined your values—it’s time to live them.

Use your list to guide:

  • Your morning decisions
  • Your boundaries
  • Your relationships
  • Your goals
  • Your calendar

Start small. Rebuild trust with yourself by checking in daily.
“Did I honor my values today?” If not, how can I show up differently tomorrow?

This isn’t about perfection—it’s about alignment.
And nothing feels more powerful than living in sync with your soul.

Hi! I’m Dorey Duncan Scott, a mother of three, wife and fashion entrepreneur. I started my career in fashion back in the early 90’s when I did print, still and runway modeling. I studied Fashion Merchandising, Music Business and Marketing, while also obtaining certificates in such industry-necessary areas such as make-up, styling and runway choreography. In addition, I had work as a spokesmodel for several brands, appearing in print and in person. As a former model, turned senior litigation paralegal, artist manager and on-air personality with a passion for fashion, beauty, and personal development, I bring a unique combination of style, strategic thinking, and legal expertise to my work. My years navigating the legal world have sharpened my attention to detail, while my experience and passion for fashion, beauty, and personal development drives my desire to help others feel empowered and help them in their journey toward self-empowerment. My experience in the fashion world has taught me the power of confidence.
