Move over, Christmas. Scoot to the side, Thanksgiving. Let’s talk about the real queen of holidays: Halloween.
Yes, Halloween. The only day of the year when the entire world embraces the aesthetic I live in 24/7. Gothic glam, moonlit mystique, dramatic makeup, velvet everything—it’s a lifestyle, darling, not a costume.
But beyond the black lipstick and cauldron-shaped mugs, Halloween holds a special place in my heart because it’s about more than candy and costumes. It’s the one holiday that celebrates transformation. You can be anything—bold, bizarre, beautiful, or downright spooky—and no one bats an eye. In fact, they applaud it.
For me, it’s a time when imagination reigns supreme. When my kids were little, we’d make memory-worthy costumes from scraps and laughter. Now, I get to watch them embrace self-expression with just as much drama (sometimes even more). And yes, I still go all out—sequin capes, mood lighting, and playlists that bounce between Billie Eilish and Bach.
There’s also something deeply empowering about the symbolism of Halloween: facing fear, embracing shadow, and celebrating the unseen. It’s metaphysical. It’s mystical. It’s V’Empower with a broomstick.
And let’s be honest: any holiday that encourages elaborate decor, decadent treats, and channeling your inner Morticia Addams? That’s my kind of self-care.
So no, it’s not just about the pumpkins. It’s about permission. To play, to express, to break the mold. And that’s why Halloween will always be my favorite.
