Stylish Woman in a Sheer Black Corset Dress and Silver Bonnet Walking Confidently Through a Minimalist White Space Text Reads what having It All Really Means and Why You Might Already Have It

Having It All: The Modern Mirage or My Monday Moodboard?

The concept of "having it all" is subjective and ever-changing. It should not equate to societal pressures of perfection, but instead focus on personal fulfillment and authenticity. True contentment comes from redefining success based on what resonates with individual values and desires, rather than adhering to unrealistic standards.

Daily writing prompt
What does “having it all” mean to you? Is it attainable?

Let’s get one thing straight: if “having it all” means flawlessly juggling a high-powered career, a picturesque family, a toned body, a social life, 10-step skincare, a sourdough starter, and inbox zero… then I’m out. Tap me on the shoulder when there’s a version that includes unwashed hair, unmatched socks, and a perfectly reheated latte.

Because here’s the truth—“having it all” is a moving target with a PR team.

For most of us, it starts as a daydream: maybe you’re 14 and think “having it all” means being the girl with the perfect locker decorations and a boyfriend who understands astrology. Fast-forward a few decades, and suddenly “all” is mortgage payments, guilt-laced self-care, and wondering if your career is fulfilling or just well-lit on LinkedIn.

So is it attainable?

Well… yes. But not in the Pinterest-perfect way it’s been marketed.

To me, having it all looks like peaceful mornings without dread, work that fuels me instead of draining me, kids who laugh with me more than they roll their eyes, and a partner who gets my brand of chaos and still signs up for the ride (hi, Derek). It means living a life that feels aligned—not Instagrammable. It means I don’t have to sacrifice my soul for a curated version of success. And no, I do not need to DIY a herb wall to feel accomplished, thank you very much.

Here’s the kicker though: you can “have it all” if you redefine what “all” means. For some of us, it’s quiet and steady. For others, it’s loud and luxurious. Neither is wrong. But chasing someone else’s version will always leave you winded and wondering why it doesn’t feel like enough.

So no, I don’t think having it all is a myth. I think we were handed the wrong checklist.

Want mine?

  • Sanity? Mostly.
  • Health? I’m working on it.
  • Family? Messy and magical.
  • Purpose? Check.
  • Closet full of sequins? Obvious.
  • Latte? Always.

That’s my “all.” And for today, it’s more than enough.
