What tattoo do you want and where would you put it?

Tattoos are like potato chips—you can’t have just one. They start as a small indulgence, a rebellious whisper to the world that says, I am me. And before you know it, they become a collection—each piece inked with its own story, its own meaning, its own memory. Mine? They’re mostly hidden, thanks to my career in law, but that doesn’t mean they don’t speak volumes.

Dragons, Roses & Lip Prints—Oh My!

Let’s start with my spirit animal, the dragon. Perched on my shoulder blade, this fierce creature is both a guardian and a gossip buddy. If my dragon could talk (and let’s be honest, it does), it would have plenty to say—mostly about you. But beyond the jokes, this tattoo represents my fire, strength, and resilience. Dragons don’t back down, and neither do I.

Then there’s my rose-and-skulls tribal tattoo on my back. It’s an ode to contrasts: life and death, beauty and darkness, strength and softness. It’s the biker rebel in me refusing to be boxed into one thing. It’s proof that you can walk into a courtroom in heels and still have a wild heart.

Speaking of rebellion with a side of romance, I have a couples tattoo with Derek—a tribal design with two hearts in our signature colors. But the pièce de résistance? My actual lip print on his chest, perfectly placed as if I just kissed him. Because if you’re getting a tattoo in my honor, it should be unapologetically me.

And of course, my motherhood ink—a delicate rose on my left breast that twists into a vine, spelling out Z3, my three incredible kids. It’s a permanent love letter, a reminder that no matter where life takes us, my heart beats in three directions.

The Ink Addiction is Real

If you think I’m stopping there, you don’t know me. Next up?

  • My grandfather’s portrait—a tribute to the man whose wisdom still guides me.
  • Lady Justice, Metallica-style—Fun fact: The And Justice for All tour featured a statue of Lady Justice named Doris. A powerful symbol of truth and fairness—and yes, Doris and I are about to be permanently connected in more than just name.
  • A tattoo in my mother’s handwriting. My son, Z2, is getting her words this weekend: I love you, Grandma. He found them in an old card she wrote to him as a child. That moment? That memory? That’s worth more than ink. It’s legacy in motion.

Why We Ink Ourselves

Some people get tattoos for fun, for rebellion, for beauty. I get mine for all of the above, but mostly because they are my story. They mark the things that shaped me, the people I love, the battles I’ve fought, and the identity I carry. They may be hidden beneath my blazers and dresses, but they are mine.

And if you’re wondering whether I’ll get more? Oh, absolutely. Because when you live life with passion, the stories never stop—so why should the ink?

What about you? If you had to get a tattoo today, what would it be? Or if you already have one, what’s the story behind it? Drop a comment—I love a good tattoo tale.

Hi! I’m Dorey Duncan Scott, a mother of three, wife and fashion entrepreneur. I started my career in fashion back in the early 90’s when I did print, still and runway modeling. I studied Fashion Merchandising, Music Business and Marketing, while also obtaining certificates in such industry-necessary areas such as make-up, styling and runway choreography. In addition, I had work as a spokesmodel for several brands, appearing in print and in person. As a former model, turned senior litigation paralegal, artist manager and on-air personality with a passion for fashion, beauty, and personal development, I bring a unique combination of style, strategic thinking, and legal expertise to my work. My years navigating the legal world have sharpened my attention to detail, while my experience and passion for fashion, beauty, and personal development drives my desire to help others feel empowered and help them in their journey toward self-empowerment. My experience in the fashion world has taught me the power of confidence.
