Two Children Reading a Book Under a Blanket with a Flashlight Evoking Nostalgia and Childhood Wonder

The Book That Taught Me to Glow Before I Could Spell It

The writer reflects on the profound impact of their favorite childhood book, emphasizing the emotions it evoked rather than its title. This nostalgic reading experience fostered imagination and empowerment, inspiring the creation of the Voguegenics collection of journals and books, aimed at rekindling that sense of limitless possibility in adulthood.

Daily writing prompt
Do you remember your favorite book from childhood?

Do I remember my favorite book from childhood?
Absolutely.
It had a tattered spine, pages that smelled like warm crayons and dust, and a plot that made no sense by today’s standards—and yet, it had me by the heart.

For me, it wasn’t about the title. It was about how the book made me feel. Cozy. Seen. Limitless.

I remember reading under the covers with a flashlight, heart pounding—not because it was a thriller, but because I wasn’t supposed to be awake. Rebellion in pajamas. That book? It made me feel powerful. Like I could be the hero, the wizard, the princess, and the dragon all at once.

That’s the magic of childhood favorites. They don’t just entertain—they imprint.

And maybe that’s why I write the way I do now.
Books weren’t just my escape—they were my permission slip.
Permission to feel, to imagine, to rebuild, to grow.

It’s what inspired me to create the Voguegenics collection of journals, planners, and books—because adulthood still needs imagination. It still needs heart. It still needs glow.

So if you’ve been craving that feeling you used to get with your favorite childhood read—that spark of “anything is possible”—I’ve got you.
