What positive events have taken place in your life over the past year?

Who knew a year could hold so much transformation? Sit tight, grab your favorite latte (mine’s vanilla, hold the guilt), and let me take you through the highs of my rollercoaster year—with a few bumps that made me me again.

First up: surgery. Or as I like to call it, “The Extreme Makeover: Internal Edition.” This wasn’t just any nip-and-tuck ordeal—it was an all-out battle plan to take my life back. After countless pre-op jitters, a small fortune in hospital socks, and a recovery period where I seriously considered pitching my couch as a reality show co-star, the results started rolling in. I’ve shed traitorous parts of my body, layers of doubt and hesitation I didn’t even know were there. People talk about “finding yourself,” and while I never got lost in a corn maze or the IKEA showroom, this was my version of finding me.

And then came Voguegenics, my beloved baby that I dusted off and polished like a long-lost heirloom. Think of it as a blend of beauty secrets, empowering vibes, and all the witty, fashionable content your heart desires. Reviving it has felt like rekindling an old flame—minus the heartbreak and bad text exchanges. It’s a hub for everyone who wants to live their best life, laugh a little louder, and maybe pick up a few tips for winged eyeliner that could double as a weapon.

Oh, but wait, there’s more! This year also marked the beginning of My Civilla, a project so close to my heart that it practically beats in sync with me. It’s a space for caregivers and supporters of loved ones with challenges like cancer and dementia. My own journey as a caregiver inspired this, and it’s a testament to how resilience can weave beauty out of shadows. Whether you’re finding strength or just need a virtual hug (and maybe a hilarious meme), My Civilla is here for you.

Sure, the year wasn’t all glamorous photo shoots and celebratory lattes—there were hard days, ugly cries, and enough takeout containers to form a questionable art installation. But that’s the magic of looking back. The hard moments were stepping stones to brighter ones, proof that we can do hard things and still come out with our humor intact.

So here’s to surgeries, reinvention, and rediscovering joy. To waking up and deciding, “You know what? I’m worth it.” And to a future that’s just as exciting, messy, and beautiful as this year has been.

What about you? What bright spots have you found over the past year?

Hi! I’m Dorey Duncan Scott, a mother of three, wife and fashion entrepreneur. I started my career in fashion back in the early 90’s when I did print, still and runway modeling. I studied Fashion Merchandising, Music Business and Marketing, while also obtaining certificates in such industry-necessary areas such as make-up, styling and runway choreography. In addition, I had work as a spokesmodel for several brands, appearing in print and in person. As a former model, turned senior litigation paralegal, artist manager and on-air personality with a passion for fashion, beauty, and personal development, I bring a unique combination of style, strategic thinking, and legal expertise to my work. My years navigating the legal world have sharpened my attention to detail, while my experience and passion for fashion, beauty, and personal development drives my desire to help others feel empowered and help them in their journey toward self-empowerment. My experience in the fashion world has taught me the power of confidence.
