a Winding Path Through Four Seasons of Trees Symbolizing Lifes Journey and Personal Growth over Time
Daily writing prompt
How do significant life events or the passage of time influence your perspective on life?

There’s a peculiar way life reshapes us, sometimes gently like waves carving soft patterns into sand, and other times like a lightning strike, leaving scars that define us in unexpected ways.

For me, significant life events have been a blend of both. Becoming a caregiver to so many loved ones, from my parents and grandmother to my husband, Derek, has given me a depth of empathy I might not have reached otherwise. It’s the type of experience that teaches you how precious the small, quiet moments are — savoring a peaceful morning latte or sharing a deep laugh after a long, hard day.

But it’s not just hardships that have shaped my perspective. Over time, I’ve learned to fully lean into joy without guilt, embracing the magic of sequins in my wardrobe and knowing that happiness doesn’t need to be postponed for “the right time.” Life doesn’t hand out refunds for wasted moments.

The passage of time, though relentless, has softened my once rigid views of perfection and success. When I was younger, I believed everything had to be meticulously planned and executed. I still crave structure (that paralegal side of me won’t allow complete chaos), but now I appreciate flexibility and trust the process a little more. I know that setbacks are just plot twists in the narrative of life — and trust me, this story has had more twists than an Agatha Christie novel.

So, how do significant life events shape my perspective? They teach me to prioritize love, peace, and laughter. Time? It whispers reminders not to take life so seriously. I may wear a lot of sequins, but I no longer feel the need to sparkle for anyone but myself.
